December 2000 December 12, 2000 - Tuesday 9:14 AM : Fifteen minutes after morning meds, Khiori goes into a grand mal seizure. Paddling, eyes open. After about 45 seconds her legs stiffened, eyes started to roll (but didn't). No barking, didn't urinate, foamed at the mouth a bit. Lasted about 90 seconds. 9:15 AM : Had about 10 partial seizures then started to come around. Kissed me, shook off her body, then started her post ictal wandering. (9:21) 10:00 AM : went outside then came back in. Post ictal includes getting stuck in corners, then will wander, occasionally tries to locate sources of sound (computer fans, voices, rain) 10:35 AM : Called vet to talk about up'ing Khiori's meds. When at 60 mg bid, averaged grand mals every 6 days. At 90 mg bid, is averaging grand mals every 11-12 days. 11:21 AM : Post ictal ends. Khiori is back to normal. Noon : Heard back from vet. Discussed seizure pattern and meds. Will now go 60 mg Pb tid. 7am, 3pm, and 11pm. Setting up lots of alarms to remind us. December 15, 2000 - Friday Cleaned powder room. ~12:15pm : Fed-Ex rang doorbell. Solo ran out of the room, upstairs, barking. Khiori didn't move. Looked frozen, spaced out, confused then she looked frightened. Talked to her quietly. She looked panicked. Zoned, panicked, zoned, panicked then was ok. (came to me) Khiori could hear the noise upstairs but didn't go. Sean returned with Fed-Ex box. Khiori took casual interest in it. Walked around a bit then was ok. Lasted about five minutes total. December 24, 2000 - Sunday Evening: (downstairs) Khiori playing with a gum drop (having fun) - ate it. Running around playing a bit. Noticed Solo holding her body up with his head under her belly. Khiori next to end table, facing the couch (trying to get to me - I was sitting on the couch). 6:57pm-7:00pm : Grand Mal. Started to waver then fell on all fours (like a rabbit) Legs jerking (lifting her up somewhat), head fell to floor (nose in carpet), foaming, rasping breathing (quick) - was being held upright by the end table on her right side. Slowed, staggered, then fell to side. Grand Mal. Paddling, chomping mouth, eyes almost rolled back. No barking either time. 7:00 pm : Post ictal begins. 8:30 pm : Post ictal ends w/Khiori jumping on the couch and giving kisses. Note: I am beginning to suspect that during post ictal Khiori is trying to piece everything out and regain her conscious awareness. I believe she's on the edge of lucidity (understanding our words, objects, scents, etc) but just past the point of complete control. December 26, 2000 - Tuesday 3:33AM : Woke up for unknown reason. Sat up in bed to see Khiori staring at me thru the mirror (her back was to me) She didn't recognize me for several moments then suddenly got up, ran to me, knowing who I was. Was seemingly OK at that point - went back to sleep. 6:01-6:02am : Grand Mal. Paddling, gasping. I turned on the light dimmly. About 45 seconds long. She ran to me - was having severe partial seizures. (Later found vomit - ???) Gave 20mg diazepam immediately (partial seizures look like she's getting hit over the head repeatedly with a 2x4, bringing her to her knees) 6:30am : gave 60mg Pb 30 minutes early (7am is the normal time) 8am : Partial seizures end. Resting. Later found 10 mg pill of diazepam on bedroom floor - only 10mg taken. 2:10pm : Appt with Dr. Discuss current status. Talk about KBr (potassium bromide). Due to half life of KBr, Dr wants us to raise Pb to 240mg daily. Going back to BID. Ordered KBr. 3pm : 60mg Pb. 10pm : 90mg Pb. December 27, 2000 - Wednesday 8am : 120 mg Pb. 9pm : 120 mg Pb.
