What do we do now?

First you need to meet with your vet and have all the appropriate tests taken.

If your dog will be put on medications, it's important to understand these drugs and the risks associated with them. Phenobarbital, for instance, needs to be monitored for levels in the blood and affects on the liver.

Some people have had success with diet changes or alternative care. Please speak with your vet before changing any medications or diets. It's important that you always refer back to your vet.

You may find yourself needing to approach a neurologist for difficult to control seizures. You will need to set up an appointment (or your vet will do this) for an examine. (search for Neurology, United States)

There are numerous research projects going on around the country. With the rise of genetic studies, it is everyone's hope that the genome responsible for inherited epilepsy may be pin pointed. Other projects include finding more about the effectiveness of anti-seizure drugs.
