Starr's SoloDancer Solo will be two years on January 8, 2001. He's a neutered Landseer Newfoundland. His temperament and personality are shining examples of the Newfoundland breed. The Newfoundland breed is notorious for their careful watchness over their families. They are historically one of the best swimmers - being swift, courageous, strong, and selfless. The Newfoundland makes one of the best family pets because of their gentle nature with children - nanny-like qualities are innate to this breed. Solo, in true form, has taken it upon himself to become Khiori's nanny when she is in the post ictal phase of seizures. Not being trained to do this, he will gently lead her away from danger, use his body to buffer any fall she may sustain, will lay with her when she is exhausted and recovering from all that befalls her. I have seen Solo lay down next to Khiori just before she goes clonic in a seizure. He stayed and let her kick at him. To remove him from the seizure site is the worst punishment he can endure, and hardly can contain himself to not go bounding back into the room - doors or no doors. In all that we have seen - all the heartbreaking seizures and emotional pains - Solo has been the epitome of grace and endurance.
