3. Nature's Gutter
This picture is of a wash (dry, intermittent stream channel). It is formed by flash flooding, usually during the summer months. Washes will eventually lead to alluvial fans or beyond to a dry lake bed. The washes themselves are clear sandy areas. You will notice an increase in plant life around washes. Don't camp in washes though! They might be nice, soft, sandy spots. But they are clear of boulders and plants for a reason. They've basically been scrubbed clean.
